Casting your Vote in the American Economy

by Spend on America Editor on November 1, 2011

When you spend money, you create an influence in the economy. When you go out and buy something, you have choices. You can pick the Romisen Chinese Flashlight or an American Made Mag-Lite. It’s like voting. When you choose a product, you are voting for the company that makes that product.

Maglite Flashlight, American MadeIf more people go into the hardware store and choose the Mag-lite, the store will order more Mag-lites and less of the Chinese flashlights. If this is happening all over the country, we will see Mag-lite, an American company that already employs 800+ workers, able to hire more workers and become more competitive.

This decision to buy a Mag-lite product, to “vote for Mag-lite,” has very real consequences. With more demand for American goods, more workers are hired, more factories are opened. More wealth is created for communities here in the USA, and we all feel the long term benefits.

This goes for every purchase we make in our daily lives. According to ABC News (who it seems got their data from Moody’s Economy.com) we would create 10,000 new jobs if every American just spends only $3.33 more per year on American made products. In this “election,” every vote counts.

We know a lot of people aren’t going to make the effort, so we have to step it up. But what else can we do? Spread the word. Get more people across the nation to “cast their votes” the American way. Get more people to commit to Spend on America.
