Will Manufacturing in America Recover?

by Spend on America Editor on March 18, 2016

A question that has been on everyone’s mind is whether manufacturing in America can survive negative long-term trends. New discoveries in the field of computer technology as well as advances in robotics threaten to undermine our chances of a recovery. These concerns are valid, but overblown.

America has the greatest software firms in the world. There is no doubt that we will be leading the push to newer and more imaginative uses of automation. Anyone who works with computer systems knows they have to be maintained and their various parts frequently need replacing. As long as the work is being done here in America, there will be plenty of jobs to go around for a long time to come.

What if our technology firms simply outsource their component manufacturing to China? Well, that’s certainly a problem. We’ve already seen that happening. What we need to do is to discourage that behavior. This will take a serious effort of will on the part of the American people. We will need to demand that the businesses we deal with will use American Made Technology whenever possible. Until we are at the point where choosing the cheaper option from China is a PR nightmare, we won’t see enough change.

If we the people are willing to overlook the importance of American Manufacturing, then the lifestyle we love will suffer for it. We can’t make that mistake. Do your research, choose the American Option, and Spend on America!
